What to do right after an accident

  • Stop, switch on the hazard lights and place the warning triangle.
  • Check for injuries; if needed, call an ambulance on 103 or 112.
  • Call the police on 102. For a minor accident with two participants, no injuries and no dispute, a European protocol can be filed without police.
  • Photograph the scene, the damage, the plate numbers and the other party's documents.
  • Exchange contacts and OGPO policy details. Don't sign documents you disagree with.

How to notify the insurer

Under the mandatory liability insurance law, the insurer must be notified immediately when possible, and no later than three working days after the accident.

The injured party claims from the at-fault driver's insurer. Its call-center number is on the policy, and the policy itself can be verified in the unified database.

Documents for the payout

  • A claim application.
  • Documents confirming the accident: a police protocol or ruling, or the European protocol.
  • The at-fault driver's OGPO policy number.
  • Vehicle documents and the driving licence.
  • The recipient's bank details.

Payout terms and limits under OGPO

The insurer must pay within 15 working days of receiving the complete set of documents.

OGPO limits are tied to the MCI: property damage — up to 600 MCI per victim (up to ₸2,595,000 in 2026), loss of life where the victim dies — 2,000 MCI (₸8,650,000).
