Travel insurance for a Schengen visa from Kazakhstan: requirements

Without insurance the consulate will not accept Schengen visa documents. What coverage is required, what the policy must include and how to buy it online.

Medical insurance is a mandatory document for a Schengen visa: without it the consulate will not accept your application. Policy requirements are the same across the Schengen area, and not every policy meets them. Here is what the visa centre checks and how to buy a compliant policy online.

Consulate requirements

Minimum coverage is 30,000 euros. A policy with lower coverage will be rejected even if it is cheaper.

The policy must be valid across the entire Schengen area, not only in the country of entry, and cover the whole visa period.

It must cover emergency medical care, emergency hospitalisation and repatriation.

What to check when choosing

Deductible. A no-deductible option is safer for a visa: some consulates reject policies under which the traveller pays part of a claim. Check the selected insurer's terms.

Country name. If you visit several Schengen countries, the policy lists “Schengen” or the main destination — coverage still applies across the area.

Format. An electronic policy is enough: print the PDF from the e-mail and attach it to your documents.

How to buy online

Use the travel directory to compare Kazakhstan insurers by cover and issuance method, then continue to the chosen insurer's official website.

Enter destination, dates and traveller ages in the insurer's calculator. After payment, download the e-policy and check every detail before the visa application.

Key takeaways

  • At least €30,000 coverage valid across Schengen is the consulates' baseline; a policy with no deductible is the safer choice.
  • An electronic policy works: just print the PDF.
  • Price depends on trip length and tourist age — comparison takes a couple of minutes.
