How OGPO is calculated in 2026: coefficients and examples
Base rate, MCI, regional, age, experience coefficients and bonus-malus — we break down the mandatory car insurance formula with examples.
In Kazakhstan the OGPO price is calculated by a single, state-approved formula. Let's break down what makes up the price and why it's the same at every insurer.
The formula
Premium = base rate × coefficients. In 2026 the base rate is 1.9 MCI, i.e. 8,217.5 ₸ (MCI = 4,325 ₸).
Coefficients are applied for vehicle type, registration region, the driver's age and experience, the car's age and the bonus-malus class.
What affects the final price
Region: Almaty 0.71, Astana 1.44, Kyzylorda 1.85 — the higher the regional accident rate, the more expensive the policy.
Bonus-malus: each accident-free year lowers the price, up to a 50% discount; an at-fault accident raises it.
Vehicle type and age: 2.09 for a passenger car, with a surcharge for cars over 7 years old.
A worked example
Passenger car, Almaty, experienced driver over 25, 3 accident-free years: 8,217.5 × 0.71 × 2.09 × 0.85 ≈ 10,365 ₸.
In Astana the same inputs cost almost twice as much — purely due to the regional coefficient.
Key takeaways
- The OGPO price is set by law — identical at every insurer.
- Region and bonus-malus class affect the price the most.
- The exact amount is computed from the plate number in a minute.
